There is one question we are asked more than any other, and we find it to this day. The thing is, the same question I asked 6 years ago. We've seen styles come and go since then, and there's still one question still, somehow.

How do meta tags affect SEO?
In my opinion, this is one of the most interesting questions in our industry. Not for the sake of feedback (that is easy enough and we will cover it for sure); but because it is a question I think will never end.

Think about it. This is one of the first topics one can talk about when introduced to SEO. There are thousands / millions of articles on the subject. And every day, someone new comes to this world we have created, and they are mature with new questions; the answers we have saved just waiting for the time to show our knowledge.

So today, I'm going to go through the most common meta tags we talk about in SEO, and how they affect your ranking (here's a quick tip; they don't do that anymore). Keywords Meta Tag Ahh keywords meta tag. This is a tag you can catch ... well ... your keywords. I think. I don’t really know because their use on Google went before I got into SEO myself, and they were saying something different on Yahoo! (RIP) at that time.

Some say that this is where you can put your keywords so that search engines know what your site is about, and they are used to determine your rank. Some claim that they are designed to put keywords that are not mentioned on your page, but are still related.

All I know is this. Google once got very tired of people using meta tag keywords to add spam to their search results, and they all ended up using it. There has been a recent time (if we compare) that they also contributed to Yahoo !, but those days are also gone; what about Yahoo! powered by Bing now.

There are still programs / applications that use meta tags for your site, usually internal site search, but that doesn't help you much in the future of SEO.

No, I'm afraid the meta tag has little to do with SEO these days. Save one use.

We actually use a little meta tag keywords. Not standard, remember. Instead, we use them in one of 2 ways.

First, for smaller, faster projects we use a keyword tag to create a catalog of targeted terms for each page. In this way, we know what links we should build on each page, it helps in our internal links and it helps when we write content. It just fell into our system one day and it really worked. Remember, this is one of the few projects we are most confident about our success. Usually local SEO clients.

Then there is the way we use them for big projects (not big clients). These are sites we are trying to put in a very competitive environment. We can often say which competitors have hired SEO services and have not. We realized that when the state of the world involved other SEO companies, then we could make a change in the focus of our site, and it was immediately after the imitation of a competitor's site.

So, we started putting useless / waste keywords in the meta tag of keywords. Every now and then, we see those keywords entering our competitor's site. Sometimes, these SEO stuff is really fun.

Creating a Meta Tag of keywords

For comprehension, this is how one can create a meta tag of keywords.

Between the opening and closing sections of your site's page you want to add the following:

Within two quotes after "content" you will add your keywords. Generally, you will want 2-5 keywords when separated by commas. Oh, and the word "keyword" is a little loose. We actually mean important words. So the meta tag for keywords will look like this:

That's all. If you decide to use a meta tag of keywords, please do not include spam in bulk search terms or overlap with all keywords you can click there. Search engines are a little smarter than that, and you will look like spam. Description Meta Tag Now description tag, there is a tag I can find in the background. Although not as important as the "SEO" concept, the description tag actually plays a very important role in your overall online marketing success in terms of Search Engine Results (SERPs) pages.

If you search on Google, you will find results, right? And you know how to click the link to get to the page, right? Can you see that piece of text right below that link? Well, that's a mark of your description, usually.

Therefore, the description tag is one of the first opportunities your site has to attract potential visitor attention. Do you notice something interesting about that screenshot? See an example of a search I used: "Google search." Now look at those definitions. Look for words in bold.

So you see, if you have redirected a search term, and you rate that term, it would be a good idea to make sure it is in your meta description too. This is one of the things that makes your site relevant to search engines.

Creating a Meta Tag Description

The meta tag description actually looks similar to the meta tag keywords:

Also, you can put your description in two quotes associated with "content." And again, this whole thing falls into the category of your page.

When writing a commentary, remember to keep it short and to the point. When I last counted, Google only displayed about 150 - 160 characters. If your description is too long, Google will actually combine it to show words that cannot be highlighted.

That is the essence of the description tag. Most important is the keyword tag, and something people will really see. Title tag Technically, the title tag is not a "meta". Well, technically, that's right; but not in HTML, and because HTML comes before SEO both alphabetically and chronologically, we will say it is not a meta tag. Instead, the tag in and of
